Beyond the Reel

Some of my personal favorite stories and award-winning reports

Finding Gertrude: The Woman Whose Home Blew Away

In this segment of The Vault, I revisit the 1974 tornado by tracking down a woman WHAS interviewed in the minutes after the tornado struck Crescent Hill.  The Vault was an enterprise franchise I created to digitize and preserve some of WHAS11's best film archives.

30 Years of Buckling Up in Indiana

In this segment of The Vault, I look back at the 1987 implementation of Indiana's seatbelt law. I am particularly proud of this piece because it was a single-day turn that I MMJ'd utilizing traditional gear and two GoPro cameras.

Metz and the Stars

In this segment of The Vault, I look back at some of Milton Metz's iconic celebrity interviews at the Kentucky Derby. The Louisville broadcast legend was incredibly passionate about his work along Millionaire's Row. It was such an honor to tell the story of a man loved and admired by so many of my colleagues.

The One-Percenter

My first true investigative piece, and one I'm still proud of. A former Kentucky child care worker is arrested for child pornography. This award-winning special investigation follows a paper trail stretching across international timelines, reavealing her troubled past. (11/13)
